NEW ACORN SERVICE OFFERED:  PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Acorn Internet Services now offers photography services to Bed and Breakfast Inns. Your web site photography and design is just as important as your SEO

[TOP]

(Search Engine Optimization). Innkeepers spend thousands and thousands of dollars every year “driving” business to their web site. You want to make sure that once you bring that potential guest to your web site, you wow them and win them over so they book a room at your B&B or Inn. That “WOW” starts with Professional Photos and an up-to-date Web Design. Our photography service is currently available to inns located in Colorado; though out of state travel is encouraged for groups of inns in a central location that can share the travel expense for one trip to encompass all participating inns's photo shoots.

FREE DIRECTORY LISTING OPPORTUNITY

We regularly coach our Acorn clients to build their links to improve their popularity with Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines.  Following is a

[TOP]

new free directory we have recently been made aware of.  Feel free to contact them directly to add a listing for your inn.  We will also be adding them to the Acorn Tool Kit.

PlanetBnB.com is a free submission Bed and Breakfast Directory. As one of many bed and breakfast directory listing services online, this directory is solely maintained by actual B&B owners (over 200 to be exact) who update and add to their listings on a daily basis. Peter Askew, Principal of Planet BnB advises that they receive over 14,000 visits a month (and growing) from travelers searching for local inns. Follow the steps on their site, and you will be listed within 48 hours.

2007 PAII CONVENTION AND TRADE SHOW

For the first time, in 2007, Professional Association of Innkeepers International (PAII) will be holding consecutive annual conferences rather than its traditional

[TOP]

biennial gathering.  Whether you are a PAII member or not, mark your calendar and make plans now to attend one of the most content-rich conferences available to the bed and breakfast industry.   While there, be sure to stop by the Acorn booth and meet some of our team members.  Also, don’t miss the workshops we will be speaking at during the conference; we will report on our workshop topics in future Acorn newsletters.

GOOGLE OFFERS PPC AD PLACEMENT OPTIONS

Google now offers the option of selecting the days of the week and times of the day that your pay-per-click ad campaigns appear.  This allows you to focus your

[TOP]

marketing dollars during the times of the day or week that you are most likely to reach your target audience.

To set these controls in your Google PPC account, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Login to your Account
  2. Select “Campaign Management”
  3. Select “Campaign Summary”
  4. Select “Edit Settings”
  5. Scroll down to “Advanced Options” where you will see “Ad Scheduling-New!”
  6. Check the box and click on “Edit Times & Bids”
  7. The next screen will present you with the time and date options – all you have to do is click on the boxes matching your preferred times
  8. Click “Save Changes” and you are good to go

Note:  This option controls all ads in a given Campaign.  If you have more than one campaign running, you will need to go through this process for each campaign.  Conversely, if you want to experiment with more campaigns, you will need to create separate campaigns to control specified keyword search terms.

If we can be of assistance with this or any of your other pay per click or marketing issues, please contact Marian Talbert to discuss how Acorn can help meet your needs.
NEW FACES AND VOICES AT ACORN

Patty Lapa Straub
Patty took an early retirement from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania after

30 years employment. She was hired right out of high school as a Stenographer and after several promotions worked her way up to the Management level.

Patty’s hobbies took front and center after retirement including traveling and wintering in Arizona for a few years.  She dabbles in poetry writing and has had a few poems published.  She helps family and friends with their computers and does Income Taxes for several of them as well as bookkeeping for her brother.

Working at home on the computer for Acorn is the only thing that could bring Patty out of retirement.   Patty’s current assignments include pulling monthly statistics for MarketWatch Reports, preparing Benchmark Reports for new customers (determining their organic placement prior to commencement of Acorn work), preparing Intell-a-Keeper contracts and most recently learning to build Meta Tags and Technical Editing to support the Acorn design & programming team.

Terri Plummer
Terri Plummer works as a Project Manager on new development projects, and assists with statistics gathering for the variety of PPC and Market Watch Report services Acorn offers to their Customers. Terri joined Acorn in 2006 after being out of the work force the last five years while raising her children.  She and her family enjoy living in Colorado and taking advantage of all the activities Colorado is famous for, including snowboarding and skiing.  In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball and loves to travel.  Terri is a graduate of Northern Arizona University, and previous worked for MCI and Intersolv, being responsible for budget coordination and software release management.

- Many more last minute bookings than ever before
- Website improvements are having a very positive effect for many
- Gas prices boosted occupancy from travelers who stayed closer to home
- Several responding inns were affected by the unprecedented number of hurricanes last year so their numbers may be skewed a bit
- The Empire State Bed & Breakfast Association (NY) reported that Western NY & Finger Lakes region bookings were up 10-20%.  Long Island was also heavily booked.
