Daily Activities

Google Alerts
You should be tracking your Online Reputation, gaining Blog Inspiration, watching for short bits of information to Tweet and Facebook and and building your Press Contact List on a Daily Basis. To learn more please attend the next Google Alerts An Amazing Tool Webinar.

Facebook
You should be watching your Business Page for spam posts, growing your Following and sharing good information that you gather from your Alerts on a daily basis. To learn more please attend the next Ever Changing Face of Facebook Webinar.

Twitter
You should be watching your Twitter account for Direct Messages, and questions others may ask. You should be generating discussion, asking questions yourself to spark interest and grow your following on a Weekly Basis. To learn more please attend the next Don’t be a Twitter Quitter Webinar.

Weekly Activities

Website Freshness
Every week you should be updating your home page and any other pages of your site with current information. If you don’t have an Innkeepers Corner on your home page, make a space where you can add fresh Content every week. This content can be about local attractions, a fellow business you want to partner with, or just upcoming events. Fresh Content is a must for Organic Placement. To learn more please attend the next Freshness Synergy Strategies Webinar.

Write a Blog Post
Once a week you should write an interesting, search engine friendly Blog Post. This post should also be loaded to both your Facebook and Twitter Account. These posts may be crafted to not only to increase your Web site page count, but can be written to either support an existing page on your site with good anchor text on the inbound link, or it can be written to entice another business in your area to partner with you by writing a mention of that business in the post. Blog Posts snippets should also automatically populate to your site as fresh content. We recommend the home page as a good place to start. To learn more please attend the next Blog Writing for SEO Success Webinar.

Link Building
Every week you should be working on gaining 1 or 2 inbound links to support both your Local and Organic Placement. These links need to be crafted to include appropriate anchor text. Remember that traded and 3-way links are not as powerful as a simple inbound, unsolicited link. To learn more please attend the next Link Building that Lasts Webinar.

Monthly Activities

Google Places (Formerly Google Local Business)
Once a month you should log into your Google Places account and make sure you update your coupons, your notes, your videos and your images and any other changes that may need to be adjusted. Once, a long, long time ago, you didn’t have this control. Now you do, and a monthly check-up for these listings is always good for business. To learn more please attend the next Google Places – Keeping it Current Webinar.

Monthly or Quarterly Activities

Map Building
Once a month you should log into your Master Google Account and take the time to build a “Related” Map. I might be hiking trails, restaurants, or anything “related” to your area. You can use this technique at any time. You don’t have to set it to once a month or once a quarter. Maps are great as reference points and topics for discussion in Facebook or Twitter posts, they add a visual “WOW” to Blog posts, and they support your Google Places (Local) Placement. To learn more please attend the next Free Magical Map Making Tool Webinar.

Newsletters
Believe it or not, not all your guests are using Social Media. You must keep in touch with them via a Monthly or Quarterly Newsletter. If you try sending out bulk E-Mails from your E-Mail account, you’ll get tagged as a spammer. You MUST use some type of Newsletter Tool to handle the bulk E-Mail sends. You might choose Constant Contact, I-Contact or YMLP. To learn more about how to get Bookings from your Newsletter content, please attend our No Nonsense Newsletter Writing Webinar.

Press Releases
Getting good Press can trump all the other marketing work you do put together. And though the hub-bub of a well written article may only last for a few days or weeks, the revenue you will generate will be well worth the effort. And the name recognition references will be there as long as the article resides online! On a smaller scale, any mentions you may receive from “Friends in the Press” are recognized by Google and help increase your brand. To learn more please attend the next Making the Press your Friend: The Art of Packaging and the Press Release Webinar.

Tracking Your Website Statistics (Urchin/Google Analytics)
You should be reviewing your unique visitors and bounce rates every month as compared to same month last year. Also you should be reviewing top referring sites as compared to your paid directories. We will be reviewing the basics of reading your Google Analytic Statistics as part of the Urchin Statistics Permanent Download / Google Analytics Intro Webinar.

Updating your Benchmark Report
If you have had your Site SEO (Search Engine Optimized) with Acorn IS Marketing techniques, you have a copy of the benchmark reports. Once a month you should go back through and verify all your search phrase placements. Remember to delete your cookies and log out of any search engine accounts to prevent “Personalization” from providing you invalid results. We cover this process as part of the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Monthly Webinar.

"Learn to Earn More" Webinars - General Topics of Interest

Though the activities in the Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly sections above should be recorded on your calendar and done accordingly, the Webinars below are provided to help you understand a concept, and are typically a "one time" attend for you to decide how to proceed with the information provided.

Project Management Innkeeper Basics
We realize that all the tasks an Innkeeper must do to stay on top of their Internet placement can be a bit overwhelming. And as a Project Manager and Innkeeper in a previous life, I am here to help you get organized! Starting in October 2010 we will be offering a Webinar designed to help you get a handle on all the tasks you have to do to keep growing your Internet placement. We will show you how to layout your calendar so that you know what to do daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly. We’ll not only give you the tools in each of the corresponding Webinars on how to do the work, we’ll help you organize your calendar so you know what to do when for the best results!

Mobile Website Introduction
Come learn why a Mobile Site is important, and how it works as compared to your full Screen Web site on a hand-held device. Mobile Standards are just not the same as Website standards, and a Mobile site is the answer for those Innkeeper who desire to go after those hand-held device users! [More]

Never Guess Again! Intell-a-Keeper can tell you what you need to know!
Do you know where your Phone, E-mail and Online Reservations are coming from? Intell-a-Keeper can tell you! In this session see how this in-house tracking product, designed and built by former Innkeepers, will give you the advantage of knowing exactly where you need to spend your marketing dollars.

Urchin Statistics Permanent Download / Google Analytics Intro
Once we’ve transitioned your tracking from Urchin to Google Analytics, plan to attend this class so you may learn the step by step instructions on how to archive your Urchin Statistics for future use. See the announcement in the section below regarding this transition.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Monthly Class
We have been teaching our ongoing SEO classes the 1st Wednesday of Every Month for the past two years. These classes are typically for new SEO customers. But in light of the fact that the Internet is changing at the speed of light, we encourage all innkeepers who are interested in making their Organic listings grow, to come and listen to this informative Webinar. This session is offered on an ongoing basis the 1st Wednesday of every month.

Club 60
Our Club 60 Webinars take our customers beyond the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly todos. Anything that is NEW on the web becomes fodder for these monthly sessions. It’s the cutting edge topics that can benefit Innkeepers in today’s online world. Just in case you are wondering, Club 60 is named for the 60 minutes a day Innkeepers set aside to maintain and grow their online presence. [More]

Urchin to Google Analytics Transition

First, let’s begin with a bit of history. Google purchased Urchin several years ago. Google Analytics was formed from the Urchin code base. Over the years Google has added new reporting features to Google Analytics that are not available in the original Urchin product. The ability to offer these new reporting features to our Acorn IS clients is our driving force for transitioning all our hosting customers from Urchin to Google Analytics. During the next 12 to 18 months, we will be working individually with each of our hosting customers, moving them from Urchin to Google Analytics.

Once your tracking code is moved, Urchin data up to the transition date will remain, but any new tracking data will only be available in your Google Analytics account.

For any Acorn IS hosting customers that currently have Google Analytics installed, we will be reviewing your site to verify you have the newest tracking code and not one of the older versions. If you have any of the older Google Analytics tracking code, we will also upgrade you to the newest tracking code available.

We highly recommend you attend one of the Urchin Statistics Permanent Download / Google Analytics Intro Webinar, or watch the Video, so you too know how to archive off your Urchin Tracking data for future reference. Once all the sites are transitioned, it is our plan to leave the Urchin server online for 12 months, at which point any historical data not archived off will be lost. The transition from Urchin to Google Analytics will be done at no charge. As always, we have support staff to save off your archived statistics for you at our normal billing rates if you prefer not to do this work yourself.

As we look into the future, beyond this effort, when Google releases its next “Newest” version of Google Analytics tracking code, any customer requesting an upgrade to the next release will be billed at our normal billing rates.

If you would like to be added to the queue to have your Website updated sooner rather later, please E-Mail pattycurtis@acorn-is.com. Include your Google Master Account Access Userid and Password in the E-mail. We will add these customers to the transition list in the order in which their requests are received.
